Challenges

As a part of rollout projects in the field of smart metering, more and more devices are connected to gateways via wireless M-Bus. In this context, the continuous availability and reliable data transmission are critical factors of success for many projects. For this reason a detailed test of the installed devices and antennas is recommended in order to obtain valid data and the selection of the right components for installation.

In many wireless M-Bus installations, signal level and data transmission are not or only partially measured. A simple check is frequently missing, whether installed devices are transmitting at all or whether there are configuration errors. As a result, installations often have to be aborted or carried out several times until the desired result is achieved.

Our Solution

With the TMate WMR, ENQT offers a compact handheld device for the measurement of wireless M-Bus signals, which convinces by its simple operation and valid measurement results. Besides parameters such as signal strength also complete Wireless M-Bus messages are received and displayed on demand. In this way, the handheld device goes far beyond what previous measurement solutions offer and enables a complete evaluation of the network quality. This means that expensive and complex installation interruptions can be reliably avoided.

Overview

The TMate WMR comes with a robust housing, an OLED display, intelligent software, an integrated battery and a power supply. The antenna connector makes it easy to connect various external antennas to test both the chosen model and the ideal antenna position (e.g. in the meter cabinet). The TMate WMR allows a valid assessment if and where a Wireless MBus connection can be realized.

Measurement procedure

The intelligent software receives all Wireless M-Bus (OMS) messages. Via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) this data is displayed in the corresponding Android App and can be evaluated there. If required, the Wireless M-Bus messages can also be displayed.

Data Deployment

Collected measurement data is displayed in the corresponding Android app and can be exported in different formats (e.g. CSV) if required. As an option, we can also develop an integration link to existing systems.
