LoRa

« Back to Glossary Index

Simply explained: Simply explainedLoRa is a wireless transmission technology that specializes in the transmission of small amounts of data over long distances with low energy consumption. It is mainly used in IoT (Internet of Things) applications to connect low-bandwidth devices.

Advanced explained:
LoRa (Long Range) is a radio technology for wireless data transmission that was specially developed for long ranges with low energy consumption.
It is based on the Chirp Spread Spectrum (CSS), a type of modulation that enables robust connections even at low signal levels.
LoRa typically achieves ranges of several kilometers at very low data rates between 0.3 kbps and 50 kbps.
LoRa is particularly suitable for battery-powered devices and applications where only small amounts of data are transmitted at long intervals, such as sensors or trackers in the Internet of Things (IoT).
The technology is often used in LoRaWAN networks in which many devices communicate with a central infrastructure via gateways.
