Stainless steel components on an FDM printer: BASF Ultrafuse 316LX

At FormNext in Frankfurt, we came across a very interesting filament from BASF: Ultrafuse 316LX

The filament has approximately 80% metal content and it can be processed on conventional FDM printers. The parts are sintered after the printing process, with BASF offering the sintering service directly. Over the next few weeks, we will undertake various tests with the material. Our main application here is rapid prototyping, particularly for sensors and electronic housings.

The weight of the filament is interesting in any case. A “normal” coil with approx. 70% filling weighs about 3 kg.
